Shashanka, the king of Bengal

There was once a Hindu king of Bengal who was undefeated and united Bengal from the foothills of Assam to the north of Andhra Pradesh. This is the legend of the great Shashanka.

In the eastern part of India there are numerous folklore which revolve around the rivalry between the goddess of skills and learning, Saraswati, and the goddess of wealth and prosperity, Lakshmi. Such tales generally signify deep philosophical messages wrapped up in humor and myths.
